Each Shorewood Shores home is systems-built with top quality materials in a controlled environment. Systems-built construction means your home is built to rigid standards in ideal conditions.

There's no worry about rain damaging your subfloor, or contractors rushing because it's cold, wet or they have another house to build. By utilizing systems-built homes we are able to deliver higher quality, in a shorter time.

Our homes are built in a manufacturing facility in sections and then transported to the job site 90-95% complete. Once the home reaches the Shorewood Shores site, the sections are lifted onto the home's foundation by crane. A finish crew will then complete the home by tying in the roof sections and interior finish. Once the home is set, Premier Property Sales of Virginia will complete additional features such as exterior brick, garages, porches and decks.

Here are just a few of the many advantages of systems-built construction:

  • To begin with, our floor and wall systems are power nailed and glued on “jigs.” This construction method is much faster than conventional and it ensures that floors, walls, and ceilings are square. It also allows for consistent cuts, braces and other behind-the-scenes techniques that create a better home.
  • Our exterior walls are 2x6 construction for added strength. This also gives us a higher insulation potential -- you can fit more insulation into a six-inch wall than a four-inch.
  • Our ceiling drywall is installed using expandable foam. This foam provides better adhesion and is stronger than nails or screws. Plus you will never have a nail pop in a ceiling that has no nails.
  • Your home is constructed in ideal conditions regardless of the weather, built in a huge indoor assembly facility -- no wind, water or extreme cold to affect the wood, or the time it takes to build your home.
  • Damage due to weather is virtually eliminated because our “unfinished” home is less exposed during the construction process.
  • Systems-built homes are built faster because more craftsmen work on your home at the same time.

Systems-built homes are also more storm resistant. A 1992 FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) study following Hurricane Andrew found that wood-frame systems-built homes (referred to as modular in the report) in hard-hit Dade County, Florida, stood up to the devastating winds better than traditional stick-built homes. The finding states: "Overall, relatively minimal structural damage was noted in the modular homes inspected following the storm…"

The report also points out that the construction method used in systems-built homes "provided an inherently rigid system that performed much better than conventional residential framing." The use of more materials also equals greater energy efficiency – another money-saver.
